About John Andersen
“My art is a reflection of how I see, feel, and imagine things.“
John’s studio is in the small Australian seaside town of Woodgate Beach in Qld. He has received multiple local awards for his artwork and has often been named a finalist in various art competitions. His creative talent has earned him both solo exhibitions and invitations to group shows at regional galleries in Queensland, such as in Bundaberg Regional Gallery, Hervey Bay Art Galley, Gataker’s Art Space Maryborough and CHARTS gallery in Childers. His artworks are part of private collections across Australia and internationally.
“I’ve always been drawn to paintings which have atmosphere, and self expression.” John said.
Like many artists, John started painting using watercolors and wanting paintings to look exactly like the subject. Currently he enjoys creating art in a loose, semi-abstract style an he believes it unimportant whether the painting resembles the subject or not. Sometimes an impatient painter who does not like fiddling, copying photos, or trying to make something look perfect. John considers himself a painter, not a drawer, and prefers to create his version of something, leaving the rest to the viewers imagination.
“I am painter not a drawer” said John.

John explains “I want the viewer to find an emotional connection with my work. To feel rather than just see. In my abstract work I enjoy painting fast, loose, and expressively. Colours are my strong suite, I try to limit my pallet, connecting colours and shapes.”
