About John Andersen
My art is a reflection of how I see, feel, and imagine things.
John’s studio is in the small Australian seaside town of Woodgate Beach in Qld. It wasn’t until in his senior years that he decided to pick up a paint brush. John says, “I’ve always been drawn to paintings which have atmosphere, feelings, and self expression.”
Like many artists, he started painting using watercolors and wanting paintings to look exactly like the subject. Currently he enjoys creating art in a loose, semi-abstract style. He believes it unimportant whether the painting resembles the subject or not.
Sometimes an impatient painter who does not like fiddling, copying photos, or trying to make something look perfect. John considers himself a painter, not a drawer, and prefers to create his version of something, leaving the rest to the viewers imagination.

John explains “I want the viewer to find an emotional connection with my works. To feel rather than just see. In my abstract work I enjoy painting fast and expressively. Colours are my strong suite and I try to limit my pallet, connecting colours and shapes.”
